WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 23, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded over $67 million dollars in grants to be allocated throughout specific counties, cities and the state of Illinois. The Community Development Block Grant, which has been awarded to Cook, Dupage, and Kane counties as well as multiple cities including Elgin, Palatine and Schaumburg, aims to help further develop urban communities by creating better living environments and increasing economic opportunities.

An additional grant, the Home Investment Partnerships Program, helps expand affordable housing for low-income families. Cook, Dupage, and Kane counties have been awarded a total of $5.8 million dollars from this specific grant. Two other grants, the Emergency Shelter Grants and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, have been awarded to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters and provide housing assistance to those medically diagnosed with HIV/AIDS respectively.

“These HUD Grants are essential to the cities and counties of the 8th Congressional District. The results from these grants, including job growth and boosting our local economies, will help improve and further develop our strong communities. I am pleased to see that Federal resources are coming back to the 8th Congressional District,” Congresswoman Duckworth said.
