Durbin Announces $1.3 Million In HUD Funding For Illinois Housing And Community Development

-

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that five communities in Illinois will receive a total of $1,354,321 in grant funding through the Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) Service Coordinators (SC) Grant Program. This federal grant program is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide funding to hire and maintain Service Coordinators who will assess the needs of residents of public housing and coordinate available resources in the community to meet those needs.

“These Service Coordinators and the programs they develop will help families gain the skills necessary to obtain employment and maintain affordable housing,” Durbin said. “I’m proud to fight for federal funding that will give local development agencies across Illinois the ability to help people in their communities who need it the most.”

The following communities will receive ROSS funding:

· Central Advisory Council (Chicago): $195,990
· Housing Authority of Henry County (Kewanee): $188,761
· Peoria Housing Authority (Peoria): $246,000
· Springfield Housing Authority (Springfield): $482,094
· Winnebago County Housing Authority (Rockford): $241,476

The ROSS Service Coordinators program works to promote the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the Public Housing program with public and private resources, for supportive services and resident empowerment activities. These services enable participating families to increase earned income, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, make progress toward achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency, or, in the case of elderly or disabled residents, help improve living conditions.

This announcement includes 123 grants nationwide totaling $32,533,607.
