Sonia Anaya receives Illinois REALTORS® Political Involvement Award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – (RealEstateRama) — REALTOR® Sonia Anaya, broker-owner of America Real Estate in Chicago, has received the 2016 Illinois REALTORS® Political Involvement Award.

The award is given to individuals for outstanding political and legislative service to the REALTOR® organization. The announcement was made at the association’s Public Policy Meetings held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Riverfront Conference Center in East Peoria, Ill., Jan. 23-26.

“Sonia understands how important it is for REALTORS® to have a voice in the policy and political issues that affect the industry and private property rights,” said Doug Carpenter, ABR, AHWD, GRI, SFR, president of Illinois REALTORS®.

Anaya is a Sustaining Golden “R” Major Investor in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and is a member of the RPAC President’s Circle. In 2015, she was inducted into the National Association of REALTORS® RPAC Hall of Fame, joining a distinguished group of REALTORS® around the country recognized for contributing at least $25,000 to RPAC.

For the Illinois REALTORS®, Anaya has served on the REALTORS® Political Action Committee Trustees, State Legislative Contacts Working Group, Housing Opportunity Working Group and this year marks her seventh year on the Federal Political Coordinators Working Group. In 2017, she chairs the state association’s RPAC Major Investor Working Group.

For the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), she has served on NAR’s Board of Directors, the Diversity and Conventional Financing and Policy committees, and in 2017, is a member of the RPAC Major Investor Council.

Anaya helps strengthen REALTOR® relationships with elected officials and global representatives by serving as the Federal Political Coordinator for U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Chicago) and as the liaison to Mexico as part Illinois REALTORS® Consulate General Liaison Program.

Anaya is a past member of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors and is a 2014 graduate of the Illinois REALTORS® Leadership Development Program.

In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the association works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation that safeguards and advances the interest of real property ownership
