West Chicago, IL – May 24, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — City of West Chicago Building Official and Assistant Community Development Director John Fincham has been recently appointed by Governor Pat Quinn to the Elevator Safety Review Board as a public member representing municipalities between 25,000 and 50,000 residents.
The appointment is significant validation of the expertise that Fincham has accumulated over the past 23 years working in municipal government, and a total of 32 years of experience in construction, both in the public and private sector. The seventeen member Board is comprised of 14 appointees by the Governor and 3 appointees by the State Fire Marshall.
The powers and duties of the Board involve authorization to adopt rules that establish standards and criteria consistent with the Illinois Elevator Safety and Regulation Act for licensing of elevator mechanics, limited elevator mechanics, inspectors and contractors. The Board may grant variances from the applicable standards, establish fees and recommend changes to the Act.
Letters of recommendation from West Chicago Mayor Mike Kwasman and several state representatives helped solidify Fincham’s appointment. As a graduate from Purdue University with a degree in Building Construction Technology and one of the first people to receive certification by the International Code Council (formerly BOCA) as a Master Code Professional in 1995, Fincham is well-equipped for his new role. “I firmly believe that Mr. Fincham will be a very valuable addition to the Elevator Safety Review board and recommend his appointment to the committee,” wrote Mayor Kwasman.
“This is a very gratifying appointment for me,” said Fincham. “It brings a sense of fulfillment to my professional life to be a part of something this significant.”
