Durbin Speaks On Senate Floor Following Severe Storm Damage In North Central Illinois

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 25, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — As recovery efforts continue in response to tornadoes that damaged communities in north central Illinois Monday evening, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today spoke on the United States Senate Floor to offer condolences to Illinois families impacted by the storms, and to commend the state and local response to the devastation. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has declared Lee and Grundy Counties – which include the hard-hit community of Coal City, Illinois – as state disaster areas.

“Nine twisters tore through the small towns of five Illinois counties Monday evening, accompanied by baseball-sized hail, flooding rains, and wind damage. As so often is the case with disasters like this, first responders, friends, and family wasted no time helping their neighbors,” Durbin said. “It isn’t just a Midwestern thing, but we’re pretty proud of it in the Midwest. I have no doubt that the people in Coal City and all the others are going to stand up and help one another clean up, rebuild, and get on with their lives.
