Governor Rauner Signs Bipartisan Legislation to Extend the Illinois Affordable Housing Tax Credit

Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) Executive Director Audra Hamernik today applauded Governor Bruce Rauner for signing Senate Bill 2921, legislation that preserves an incentive for private investment in affordable housing throughout Illinois by extending the Affordable Housing Tax Credit for an additional five years.

Illinois 2Q11 Housing Market Reflects Last Year’s Final Tax Credit Push

SPRINGFIELD, IL - August 10, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) second quarter 2011 report, Illinois home sales (which include single-family homes and condominiums) totaled 29,316 in the second quarter, down 18.0 percent from 35,746 home sales in the same period a year ago while 2010 sales were up significantly by 28.2 percent from 2009 sales of 27,890. The second quarter statewide median home sale price was $142,000, down 11.3 percent from $160,000 in the second quarter of 2010. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more, half sold for less.

Homebuyer Tax Credit Extension for U.S. Service Members Expires April 30

Springfield, IL - February 16, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S military personnel and certain other federal employees serving overseas must act quickly if they plan to take advantage of the federal tax credit of up to $8,000 for first-time buyers and $6,500 for long-time homeowners that expires on April 30, 2011. Members of the U.S. military, foreign serviceand intelligence communities were given an extra year to claim the tax credit, which expired in 2010 for all other homebuyers.“The tax credit has been a great incentive for new and repeat homebuyers and U.S. service members have but a short window to claim it before it is gone. Illinois Housing Market Gains Ground in 2010 in a Tough Economy

SPRINGFIELD, IL - February 10, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- The Chicagoland region ended 2010 nearly even with home sales in 2009 while statewide the Illinois housing market continued to ride out the turbulent economic times boosted by sales from the homebuyer tax credits. SPRINGFIELD, IL - September 23, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Illinois home sales made gains in August from the previous month as buyer affordability conditions soared; slower activity is anticipated due to seasonal factors and fewer buyers in the immediate pipeline following the tax credit. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in August 2010 totaled 8,390, an increase of 2.6 percent from July’s 8,181 home sales; year-over-year home sales are down 21.9 percent compared to August 2009 sales of 10,740 homes. First-time buyers dominate Illinois housing market

More than half of home buyers in the 2009 Profile of Illinois Home Buyers and Sellers were first-time buyers, due in large part to the first-time homebuyer tax credit stimulus and increased affordability in home prices in the last year. The survey results released by the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) found 51% of buyers were first-time buyers, compared to 47% nationwide (a figure which has averaged closer to 40% nationwide since 2001). When asked about the primary reason for timing of the home purchase, 46% of first-time buyers said it was just the right time.
