Bustos Urges Illinois Communities To Apply For Federal Transportation & Infrastructure Grants
WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, urged communities across her region of Illinois to apply for $500 million in federal grants available for transportation and infrastructure projects. More information on the application process on the next round of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants can be found by visiting http://www.dot.gov/TIGER. The deadline for pre-applications is May 4th and the deadline for final applications is June 5th.
“I believe that by investing in our networks of roads, bridges, rail lines, airports and waterways we are creating jobs and making a down payment on our region’s long term economic well-being,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “That’s why I strongly urge Illinois communities to apply for these transportation and infrastructure grants that will help put people to work and grow our local economy.”
TIGER Grants provide a unique opportunity for the DOT to invest in road, rail, transit, bicycle/pedestrian, port, and multi-modal projects that achieve critical national objectives. Since 2009, Congress has dedicated more than $4.6 billion for seven rounds to fund competitive projects that have a significant impact on the Nation, a region, or a metropolitan area. Through the TIGER program, DOT has awarded grants to 342 projects in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
TIGER 2015 discretionary grants will fund capital investments in surface transportation infrastructure and will be awarded on a competitive basis to projects that will have a significant impact on the nation, a region, or metropolitan area.
