WASHINGTON, D.C. – January 3, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced that the City of Elgin and DuPage county will receive Housing Choice Voucher – Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) grants for $66,194 and $88,710, respectively. The program encourages communities to develop local strategies to help families obtain employment that will lead to economic independence and self-sufficiency.
“Families in Illinois and throughout our country continue to face serious economic challenges,” said Duckworth. “Illinois ranks 4th in the nation with an 8.7% unemployment rate and a poverty rate that nearly doubled to 9.2% in my congressional district over the last decade. These HUD grants are a small but important investment in our community and its workforce. The taxpayers of Illinois contribute more than their fair share to the Federal government and I am pleased to see that resources are coming back to the 8th Congressional District.”
