WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 24, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Robin Kelly announced today that the City of Kankakee has been awarded a $460,636 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“Federal Community Development Block Grant funds have greatly benefited the city by supporting valuable services, better housing, public improvements and economic development,” Congresswoman Kelly said. “Over the years, Kankakee has used annual CDBG funding to advance community development and improve the lives of many residents.”
Kankakee will use the funds for a variety of social service programs and infrastructure improvement projects, including the demolition of dilapidated structures. Local merchants can also apply for funds to make their business ADA accessible or to improve storefront facades. In addition, grant funds will provide assistance to programs such as Meals on Wheels and other services that assist low- to moderate-income residents.
“The city is appreciative of this grant allocation to further assist us in funding our housing programs, public service programs and public facilities programs,” said Clifford Cross, director of Kankakee’s Community Development Agency.
