CHICAGO – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $284,200 in federal funding for projects in Fulton and Knox Counties to support rural community development projects. Today’s funding, provided through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Community Development Initiative Grant, will provide assistance to construct a new township building and install a new storm siren.

“This federal funding will help boost communities in Fulton and Knox Counties, serving to create a new meeting place for Copley Township and increase safety for residents of the Village of Bryant,” said Durbin. “I will continue working with Senator Duckworth to ensure that our state’s rural communities have access to the critical federal investments that drive economic growth.”

“Illinois communities deserve the resources they need to effectively serve and protect hardworking families, which is why investments like these in Fulton and Knox Counties are so important. I look forward to working closely with Senator Durbin to secure more investments to support rural communities across our state,” Duckworth said.

Under this announcement, the following projects will receive USDA funding:

·         Copley Township (Knox County): $250,000 loan and $20,000 grant to construct a new 60 x 120” pole-type building to house township equipment as well as a public meeting place, voting location, food pantry, warming center and other public events.  The existing facility is over 125 years old and has exceeded its useful life. This building will provide an essential community service to approximately 348 residents of the township.
·         Village of Bryant (Fulton County): $14,200 grant to install a storm siren in an area termed, “tornado alley”. Installing this storm siren will help ensure the public’s safety within the village.
