House Keeps Promise, Reauthorizes Another Water Resources Bill

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released this statement after the House passed the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, which includes the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). This bill is expected to be signed into law after passage in the Senate this week.

“As a member of the House Transportation Committee, we promised to reauthorize the water resources bill every two years to ensure proper oversight of the Army Corps so we can repair and enhance our waterways,” said Davis. “I believe the Corps can and must do better than taking 10 or 20 years to get projects off the ground. This is why I am requesting a study on the cost and benefits of transferring management of the Inland Waterway Trust Fund to a not-for-profit or government-owned corporation. Our farmers need, and taxpayers deserve, a reliable system to move their products to market.”

Other 13th District priorities in the bill include:

• Directs a study on systematic flood damage reduction in the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River Basins;
• Improves the Army Corps of Engineers Section 408 permitting process without expanding Federal jurisdiction; and
• Language allowing approval of state programs for the control of coal combustion materials, including coal ash.
