30,122 Square Foot Terminal Building Expansion Will Improve Traveler Experience

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today announced over $6 million in federal funding to support a 30,122 square foot terminal building expansion at the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD).

“Illinois is located at the crossroads of the Nation and hosts travelers from all over the country so it is crucial that we utilize federal funding to improve our airports,” said Senator Kirk. “I work on the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funding bill each year in order to support innovative projects, like the terminal expansion at RFD, that will help improve travel for people in Illinois and across the U.S.”

The over $6 million grant funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration will fund phase two of the four phase terminal expansion project. Once completed, the expansion will improve traveler experience by enabling more efficient passenger movement throughout the terminal.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Kirk supported the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funding bill for fiscal year 2016, which includes funding for the Airport Improvement Program to support the planning and development of public-use airports, and worked to secure these funds in the Omnibus Appropriations bill signed into law in December.
