WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 16, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) released the following statement today prior to the banking subcommittee’s markup of Chairman Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) and Ranking Member Mike Crapo’s (R-Idaho) housing reform legislation:
“American taxpayers should never again be on the hook for billion-dollar bailouts of the housing industry. The federal government has too high of a stake in the housing market, and specifically in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. S. 1217 will protect taxpayers from another costly bailout. I commend Chairman Johnson, Senator Crapo and the rest of the banking committee for their bipartisan efforts on this legislation, and I strongly encourage the Senate leadership to bring this important legislation to the Floor for a vote.”
