REALTORS® providing housing aid for November tornado victims

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – January 13, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Illinois REALTORS® and their national colleagues are poised to provide housing assistance to those in areas affected by the November tornadoes.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® in partnership with the REALTORS® Relief Foundation is taking applications through March 1 from those who sustained housing losses. Illinois REALTORS® and their colleagues from throughout the U.S. have raised nearly $200,000 to help tornado-stricken communities.

“There are more than 41,000 Illinois REALTORS® who care deeply about communities, no matter where they are,” said Phil Chiles, president of the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. “Whenever there is a disaster, our members are among the first to donate money and supplies.”

Assistance can be for up to one month of expenses, with a limit of $1,500 per applicant. There is a limit of one grant per residence. The money can go toward:

  • A monthly mortgage expense for the primary residence damaged in the tornadoes.
  • The cost of temporary shelter due to displacement from the storms.

The application deadline is March 1, 2014, and the form to apply can be found at www.illinoisrealtor.org/Tornado. (Or through this link.) Applicants do not have to be REALTORS® to receive aid.

The REALTORS® Relief Foundation was established by the National Association of REALTORS® to provide disaster assistance. The fund allows REALTORS® nationwide to play a role in helping communities recover.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® represents 41,000 members engaged in all aspects of the real estate business. The trade association has a long history of providing help to disaster victims in Illinois.
