Visit Highlights Rep. Hoyer’s “Make It In America” Initiative

CHICAGO – July 2, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) joined Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD-05), the second ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, to tour Rags of Honor, a screen printing organization that has the mission of providing employment and services to homeless veterans. The visit provided an opportunity to hear how a local Chicago business is manufacturing their products, innovating, and creating jobs right here in the U.S.

“Rags of Honor is the perfect example of a local small business that has had a tremendous impact on the community around them. After proudly serving their country, the last thing our veterans should have to worry about is finding shelter or employment,” said Rep. Quigley. “I have had the pleasure of visiting Rags of Honor many times before, and I couldn’t be more pleased to introduce Mr. Hoyer to the hardworking team here today.”

“I was grateful for the opportunity to visit Rags of Honor with Rep. Quigley and meet some of the veterans who are working there and to thank them for their service to our country,” said Whip Hoyer. “Congress has a responsibility to make certain that those who served in the uniform of our country have a roof over their heads after they come home – along with the skills and certifications to find good jobs. I look forward to continuing to work with Rep. Quigley to ensure that Congress meets its responsibility to America’s veterans.”

Reps. Quigley and Hoyer were joined by Mark Doyle, owner of Rags of Honor, and several Rags of Honor employees during the visit, which included a tour of the facility and a demonstration of the screening process.

“Congressman Quigley has done so much for the veterans at Rags of Honor and we are honored that he would bring Congressman Hoyer to meet the Rags team,” said Mark Doyle, Founder of Rags of Honor. “300,000 veterans were homeless for at least one night last year in America and it is our sacred honor to make sure these men and women who wore the uniform don’t get left behind. We are honored to have both Congressman Quigley and Hoyer join the team to learn more about Rags of Honor and help us with our mission to end veteran homelessness one tee shirt at a time.”

Rags of Honor is a Chicago-based screen printing organization that has the mission of providing employment and services to homeless veterans. The proceeds go directly to employ the veterans who are producing the garments at the Rags of Honor facility. They also offer continuing education and training to their employees, helping them with life skills needed to be successful in civilian life.

Rep. Quigley is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of House members that supports our nation’s manufacturers with policies that foster growth, innovation and entrepreneurship. He is committed to efforts policy initiatives that protect American workers and support American jobs while promoting our interests and values abroad.
