Bustos Announces $1.2 Million in Funding for Freeport, East Dubuque Head Start Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced a $1,236,603 grant for Northwestern Illinois Community Action Agency in Freeport. The grant is awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will be put toward Head Start projects.

“I’m pleased to announce this important investment in Freeport and East Dubuque youth and the larger community,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “Today’s grant will help children and families in our region get a jumpstart on a quality education and allow our young people to develop the skills they need to excel and be healthy and productive members of our communities.”

“We are thrilled to be provided with this funding,” said Marcia Derrer, Executive Director Northwestern Illinois Community Action Agency. “This grant will allow us to continue to serve nearly 200 children and families in our region by providing quality pre-school and partnering with families to set and attain their goals”

The grant funding will go toward Head Start programs in Freeport and East Dubuque. Bustos is a strong supporter of Head Start, a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages birth to five by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development.
