Al Suguitan Receives Illinois Association of REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – October 16, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Al Suguitan, CAE, ePRO, GRI, RCE, president and chief operating officer of the Greater Gateway Association of REALTORS®, was named a recipient of the Illinois Association of REALTORS® 2013 Distinguished Service Award. The award honors individuals who have provided outstanding contributions and service to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) and their local communities. Suguitan received the award Oct. 1 at the IAR Business Meetings in St. Charles, Ill.

An Edwardsville resident, Suguitan has led the Greater Gateway Association since 2000 and has served on a number of IAR committees including Professional Standards, Executive and the Public Policy and Government Affairs Member Involvement Group. In 2013, he chaired the Association Executives Committee. Suguitan is a Major Investor in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and in 2010 was inducted into the RPAC Hall of Fame.

Suguitan began his 40-year career in the real estate industry as a REALTOR® selling commercial and residential real estate in the Carbondale area. A past president of the Egyptian Board of REALTORS® and a local REALTOR® of the Year, he has taught real estate pre-licensing courses at the Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses of Southern Illinois University, John A. Logan Community College and served as a college trustee for Lakeland Community College in Ohio. From 1990 to 1992, Suguitan served as the Illinois Commissioner of Real Estate.

Suguitan has a strong history of giving back to his community and his country. In 1992 and at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he retired from the military after more than 21 years of service of active and reserve duty with the U.S. Army.

He is on the board of directors of the Madison County Affordable Housing Corp., the River Bend Growth Association and is the 2013-2014 Vice President of the St. Louis Institute for Association Leadership.

Also receiving the 2013 IAR Distinguished Service Award was REALTOR® Sue Miller, managing broker of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell in McHenry, Ill.

The Illinois Association of REALTORS® is a voluntary trade association whose 41,000 members are engaged in all facets of the real estate industry. In addition to serving the professional needs of its members, the Illinois Association of REALTORS® works to protect the rights of private property owners in the state by recommending and promoting legislation that safeguards and advances the rights of real property ownership.
