Foster Announces $2.7 Million Grant for Flood Protection in DuPage County

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 20, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Today, Congressman Bill Foster announced that DuPage County will be receiving a $2.7 million Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund the acquisition and demolition of 13 flood prone residential properties.

“The grant received by DuPage County will enable homeowners to leave high risk areas and prevent the emotional and financial trauma caused by floods,” said Foster. “As snow melts and we welcome spring, it is important to remember the risk flooding poses and what our families can do to prepare.”

Following severe flooding in April of 2013, Congressman Foster joined the rest of the Illinois Congressional Delegation in appealing to the Obama Administration for disaster relief. A copy of the letter sent to President Obama can be found here.

DHS/FEMA will contribute to 75 percent of costs associated with the project, which will facilitate the purchase and demolition of 13 residential properties as well as restoration of the land where they stood.
