A slightly lower inventory of houses on the market has helped sellers see prices rise in many North Shore and Barrington-area communities.  Homes are selling faster now than in the last few years and buyers are finding they need to move fast to get the home they want.

Homes sold faster and prices were stronger in July, but lower inventory continues to act as a drag on the market, according to Illinois REALTORS®.

At the midpoint of 2016, early predictions of healthy market performance are holding for the North Shore-Barrington housing market. Housing data for June shows the number of new listings and closed sales slightly fell from the same period in 2015, while houses under contact rose substantially, according to the North Shore-Barrington Association of REALTORS® (NSBAR).

Homebuyer demand drove sales and prices higher in June and marked a strong first half of the year for the Illinois housing market, according to Illinois REALTORS®. Statewide home sales (including single-family homes and condominiums) in June 2016 totaled 18,593 homes sold, up 1.4 percent from 18,328 in June 2015. Year-to-date, home sales totaled 78,547 homes sold, an increase of 5.5 percent compared to the first six months of 2015.

The Chicago Housing Authority announced today that it has awarded 230 prospective and current college students with $268,000 in scholarships for the coming school year. The scholarship winners were notified on July 5 and can use the funds for the 2016-2017 school year to cover costs including tuition, fees, room and board, books and other eligible expenses
