May Marks a Four-Month Rise in Illinois Home Sales

SPRINGFIELD, IL - June 21, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- Illinois home sales have been trending positive month-to-month since February 2011 and median home prices have moved up for the last three consecutive months, all good signs for a market working to recover amid lackluster job creation and a restrictive lending environment. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR) latest report, statewide home sales (including single family and condominiums) in May 2011 totaled 9,736 homes sold, up 13.9 percent from 8,546 sales in April 2011; sales were down 16.8 percent from 11,705 homes sold in May 2010.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - September 23, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Illinois home sales made gains in August from the previous month as buyer affordability conditions soared; slower activity is anticipated due to seasonal factors and fewer buyers in the immediate pipeline following the tax credit. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in August 2010 totaled 8,390, an increase of 2.6 percent from July’s 8,181 home sales; year-over-year home sales are down 21.9 percent compared to August 2009 sales of 10,740 homes. Year-to-date sales remain positive, up 9.2 percent January through August 2010 with 73,598 sales compared to 67,390 home sales for the same period in 2009.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - August 24, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- After nearly a full year of home sales gains statewide, the rush to meet the homebuyer tax credit deadline combined with weak job and economic reports led to a lull in Illinois home sales activity in July. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in July 2010 were down 29.7 percent, totaling 8,135 homes sold compared to July 2009 sales of 11,566 homes. The median price in July 2010 was $160,000, down 4.3 percent from $167,185 in July 2009. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more, half sold for less.
