Illinois Home Sales Increase 14 Percent in January from a Year Ago

SPRINGFIELD, IL - March 1, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Buyer market conditions remain in most Illinois housing markets as January marked the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year home sales increases while the statewide median price logged its first uptick since September 2007. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in January 2010 were up 14.0 percent, totaling 5,483 homes sold compared to January 2009 sales of 4,809 homes. The median price in January 2010 was $145,300, up 0.2 percent from $145,000 in January 2009. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more, half sold for less.

According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in September 2009 reached 10,350 homes sold, up 3.3 percent from September 2008 sales of 10,018. The Illinois median price in September 2009 was $160,000 down 9.3 percent from $176,450 in September 2008. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more, half sold for less.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - August 21, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) -- July registered another month of positive signs in the Illinois housing market with home sales about even with July 2008 totals as well as six consecutive month-to-month sales increases for both the state as a whole and the Chicagoland PMSA. According to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® latest report, statewide total home sales (which include single-family and condominiums) in July 2009 reached 11,407 homes sold, off a slight 0.1 percent from July 2008 sales of 11,417; sales were up 4.2 percent from 10,944 homes sold the previous month of June 2009.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - May 12, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — March sales showed sizeable gains over February, yet tighter lending standards had a resounding effect on first quarter home sales, according to the Illinois Association of REALTORS® (IAR). Home sales (which include single-family homes and condominiums) totaled 16,748, down 23.5 percent from 21,902 home sales in the first quarter of 2008. The first quarter median home sale price was $146,000, down 21.1 percent from $185,000 a year earlier. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more, half sold for less.
